In 2022, identified Secretariat personnel, comprising the ballot box collection and return teams undertook a Basic Self-Defense and Basic Water Safety Skills Training Workshop. Building on this foundation, this year the group conducted a comprehensive review and assessment of their self-defense and water safety skills, while also acquiring additional knowledge to enhance their confidence during deployments.

The Enhanced Gender Responsive Self-Defense Training Workshop was conducted by Fist Gym Philippines, Inc., under the guidance of head trainer Mr. Rosenberg L. Rosete, alongside trainers Mr. Sheraz Qureshi, Mr. Oscar Audey Joves, Ms. Luan Jindani (first day), and Ms. Lei Chan (second day). The workshop took place from April 23 to 24, 2024, at the SRA Social Hall in Quezon City.

Participants were introduced to a range of dynamic hand-to-hand combat techniques designed to equip them with the skills necessary to escape common attacks. The curriculum included striking, ground fighting, and defense against weapon threats. Following detailed demonstrations, attendees engaged in practical simulations to prepare for life-threatening situations.

Subsequently, from May 28 to 30, 2024, a three-day Enhanced Gender Responsive Water Safety Skills Training Workshop was held in Iba, Zambales. This training was facilitated by a team from Excellence and Competency Training Center, Inc., namely, Capt. Jorrel J. Navarro, Engr. Richard G. Diodoco, Engr. Heather Grace D. Obado, and Mr. Monchito M. Sudayan.

In addition to reviewing key swimming techniques from 2022, the facilitators led detailed discussions on oceanography, meteorology, and the maritime landscape of the Philippine archipelago, covering sea routes, ports, weather patterns, tides, and currents. The participants also relearned essential skills, including how to properly wear a lifejacket, jump from heights into water, swim with a lifejacket, and stay afloat without one. The training also included a brief overview and demonstration of first aid, along with emergency response protocols for drowning and other medical emergencies in both shallow and open water.

With the successful completion of these two training workshops, the Ballot Box Collection and Return Teams are now better equipped with essential safety skills to fulfill their responsibilities. This enhanced preparedness enables them to perform their tasks with greater confidence, while also contributing to the security and integrity of the electoral process.
